Mindsay Theme Changing for Dummies 101

Okay everyone take a seat and grab a note book and pen. Class is now in session!

We'll go slow for the...'special' people...

To get to the page to change your theme you need to click on the "Blog" link which will take you to the page you use to make entrys. On this page there will be six links under your name, the one you want is "Customize Design" (only lazy uncool people click the "Pick Theme" link instead of coming here...jerks)

Well after you have clicked on "Customize Design" It will bring you to a page like this:

The Edit's outlined in red are what we'll be using.

The Mindsay Blog Layout is in Layers:

When you go to edit/customize a part of your page (header, plugins, entry background, blog background, page background) for all but the header you will get a color grid like this where you can chose a color or put in a picture URL:

A URL is the 'uniform resource locator' a.k.a. the address of the picture or what you would put up in the Address bar to view the picture on the net (http://www.somthing or other) but I'm sure you already knew that? If you have your own picture on your computer you CAN NOT put it on the site without first hosting it (I recommend ImageShack) Also, I advise against the use of photobucket, if the photobucket image is removed your picture will just disappear.

Along the lines of headers, I recommend using a JPEG type file (you can convert most any picture file into a JPEG by doing a simple 'Save As' and switching the file type) I've noticed that JPEG's load faster than some other files (i.e. PNG,BMP,etc.) When it comes to size I find it is best not to exceed 900X600, understand that your header effects the width of your blog...if you put a desktop size picture up for your header and you post a long entry, people are going to have to continuously scroll right to left to read the whole thing...quite annoying really...so be sure to crop it or downsize first.

For Plugins and the Entry Background, you can use images...but I suggest against this because for one...if you put in an image that's has a lot of things in it, and is dark in some places light in others, your going to have a difficult time reading the font over it...so if you must use and image make sure you use an image that is very light and use a dark font, or the other way around...make sure it's easy to read?
